Social media marketing platforms

Social media marketing has quickly become the lifeblood of many businesses. But you need to know what the best platform for your social media marketing campaign is. When you're first starting out, it can be hard to know which platform you should focus on. In this article we'll go over the advantages and disadvantages of the major social media platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, and more!

Best platform for social media marketing campaigns

Audience:

In marketing you will hear "who's your audience" more than anything else. The reason why is because in order to sell your service or product, we need to know who you're trying to sell to! Only then can you know how to reach them. If you're selling designer canes, your target audience is going to be 65+ and Snapchat is not going to be the best way to reach them. Before moving on, make sure you know who your audience is! Then you'll be able to find your best platform for social media marketing campaigns.

The OG of social media marketing platforms. Facebook is tried and true when it comes to finding customers for businesses. With 2.7 Billion monthly users, Facebook gives your business access to the largest audience on social media. One of the strengths of Facebook comes through the options you have for advertising mediums. You can do text, video, story, and picture ads all on one platform. However, we need to keep in mind your audience before jumping on the Facebook bandwagon.

Men aged 25-34

Facebook's largest demographic is made up of males aged 25-34. However, the 65+ demographic is the fastest growing of all age ranges.

Instagram is the rising star of social media marketing platforms. With 1.2 billion monthly users and new accounts being made every day, it's no wonder businesses are falling in love with the platform. There's also a variety of options for advertising on Instagram with pictures, stories, videos, carousels, and collections with direct links to product pages. Instagram also has the highest business engagement rate at an average of 1.22% per post.

Men and Women aged 25-34

Instagram's largest demographic is 16.5% females and 16.6% males aged 25-34. However, the 18-24 age range is a very close second, and women make up the majority of users over 35.

YouTube is the undisputed king of video advertising. If your business already produces video content or you work in an industry that is visual, or you have the budget for video, then YouTube might be your best platform for social media marketing campaigns. YouTube has 2.3 billion monthly users and 74% of all adults in the U.S. use YouTube. Another benefit is that if a user skips an ad, you don't pay for it, so you are more likely to generate revenue for each ad you pay for.

Men and Women aged 15-25

YouTube has a huge market share among both genders with 72% of all female internet users and 72% of all male internet users. The most common age group is 15-25 so you will have more impact on the younger demographic when you choose YouTube as the platform for your social media marketing campaigns.

Twitter is a space for sharing not only short text ads, but video and photo ads as well. The most important part of Twitter though is the demographic and the ability to monitor a campaign's impact and success easily.

Men aged 30-49

Twitter's user base is made up of 68% male users. An interesting point of the Twitter demographic is that 42% of users are degree holders compared to the 31% of Americans which means that by marketing on Twitter, you are more likely to reach a higher earning audience.

LinkedIn, "Do business where business is done." This platform offers the best access for B2B marketing out of any social media marketing platform. If you are looking for a place to sell to other businesses, LinkedIn is that place.

Men and women aged 46-55

LinkedIn really is the social media platform where business is done. The demographic data shows this with a pretty even split in the genders of users. According to LinkedIn, they are the #1 platform for lead generation.
